Everyone knows that doing selection as a pilot is tough. Especially if you have already completed the flight course, you usually think you are well prepared. After all, you have already passed a selection process before you were even able to start your education. And in addition, you have also completed, the sometimes tough, flighttraining and obtained your license. So you meet all the requirements to start your job at an airline!
And then the selection processes turn out to feel impossible after all. You do everything you can to prepare yourself as good as possible, you do your very best during the selection moments and then the long wait begins….. When you then get the message that you have not gotten the job, is that a bitter pill! It gets even more annoying if it happens a couple of times. Especially because there are not so many opportunities as a pilot then for other jobs. The annoying result can be that you start to doubt yourself and you don’t even want to start another selection.
Selection processes for jobs in the cockpit can be extremely tough! And since there are so many applicants for often just a few places, many candidates don’t get the job. And even though this is not fun, it is good to realize this in advance. Sometimes it is clear why you did not get the job, but also often it is not. And as difficult as it may be, sometimes it’s just bad luck. Starting another selection process after this can indeed be “not fun at all”.
It is therefore good to realize that this is also part of your career as a pilot. Doing very tough selections, preparing and training for weeks in advance, then not getting the job and start again looking for the job, sending in your application etc. And yes this is certainly not fun or easy! But sometimes realizing that this is part of it can help not to lose your confidence.
Of course we can help you to prepare you for your selection. If you have not passed one or several selections we will take extra time during the training to analyze what happened. Was it bad luck or are there some elements we can look into? We helped many pilots in this situation before and they all entered their next selection with more confidence, sometimes they even had some ‘fun’ during their next selection!
One final piece of advice: Start each selection with good courage, go that extra mile and show that you are the right pilot that they absolutely have to hire. Good luck!
